After many years of searching around the world for somewhere to retire I finally settled on Antioquia in Colombia, between the villages of El Peñol and Guatape and about an hour's drive from the popular city of Medellin. Located beside a large lake 2000 metres up in the Andes mountains and very near to the equator, it has everything that I need. A wonderful climate that's never hot enough to need airconditioning or cold enough to need heating, however I do have a fireplace for romantic evenings!
I spent a year rebuilding and extending the house, with new foundations, plumbing, electrics, windows and doors etc. bringing the house up to European specification without losing the traditional design and feel of the house. My original intention on moving to Colombia was to have a small house with just enough room to be comfortable, unfortunately I got carried away in the rebuilding process and ended up with a much bigger house than I need.
There are four main bedrooms and three bathrooms plus an extension for a tool shed that could be used for a mayor domo or housekeeper/gardener. Spacious rooms, high ceilings, large picture windows, luxury bathrooms and a large lounge that has doors that slide completely away giving access on to the "deck" make this a house for those that love, fresh air, light and al fresco living. 3/4 acre of gardens with various fruit trees, herb garden, avocados, bamboo and flowering shrubs.
Why am I selling this lovely house? My lady wants to run a small hotel and friends of hers want to sell theirs, hence putting my house up for sale. So much for my retirement lol.
